महाराज व्याघ्रदेव गुजरात से चलकर रीवा आकर अपनी राजधानी बनाई,जो मध्यप्रदेश बनने से पहले विंध्य प्रदेश हुआ करता था.महाराजा व्याघ्रदेव के पांच संतानों में सबसे छोटे पुत्र कंधरदेव को कसौटा का राजा बनाया गया जो अब शंकरगढ के नाम से जाना जाता है
कहानी शंकरगढ़ की कहानी शंकरगढ़ के दशहरे की उत्तर प्रदेश के प्रयागराज जनपद के यमुनानगर के उत्तर प्रदेश और मध्यप्रदेश की सीमा पर स्थित शंकरगढ राजघराना जो पहले कसौटा राजघराने के नाम से जाना जाता था,ये बहुत पुराना राजघरना माना जाता है। शंकरगढ राजघरना जोकि रीवा रियासत का एक परिवार है। ये राजघरना महाराजा व्याघ्रदेव के वंशज है। जिन्हें बघेल राजा कहा जाता है,महाराजा व्याघ्रदेव नाम से राजपूतों का बघेल खानदान कहा जाता है। महाराजा व्याघ्रदेव गुजरात से चलकर मध्यप्रदेश के रीवा में आकर बस गए। जो मध्यप्रदेश राज्य बनने से पहले विंध्य प्रदेश के नाम से जाना जाता था। महाराजा व्याघ्रदेव के पांच पुत्र हुए जिसमे सबसे छोटे पुत्र कंधरदेव को कसौटा का राजा बनाया गया जो अब शंकरगढ के नाम से जाना जाता है,इसी राजघराने के 34 वें पीढ़ी के राजा महेंद्र प्रताप सिंह शंकरगढ की जनता के स्नेह एवं प्यार को देखते हुए अपने पूर्वजों की इस परंपरा को बरकरार रखा है।
34 सालों से निभाई जा रही यह परंपरा
पूरे देश मे राजतंत्र समाप्त हो गया जिसके साथ सभी राजाओं वाली परंपराएं भी समाप्त हो गई,लेकिन 34 पीढ़ी से दशहरे पर होने वाली परपंरा आज भी कायम है। परंपरा के अनुसार दशहरे के दिन सुबह राजघराने के प्रतीक चिन्ह झंडे की पूजा होती है,इसके बाद राजगद्दी एवं शस्त्र पूजन होता है,इसके उपरांत रात्रि को राजा अपने राजसी पहनावे में आकर जनता के बीच रूबरू होकर मिलते है,परंपरा के अनुसार 34 वें राजा महेंद्र प्रताप सिंह उत्तर प्रदेश और मध्यप्रदेश के 365 गांव से आए हुए जनता को संबोधित करते हैं। राजा को नजराना पेश करने की परंपरा आज भी कायम है पूरे कसौटा क्षेत्र की जनता आज भी इनको अपना राजा मानते हुए पुराने परम्परा के अनुसार नज़राना पेश करती है, परम्परा के अनुसार पहले राजा के खानदानी लोग नज़राना पेश करते है उसके बाद क्षेत्र से आए हुए आम जनता अपने राजा को नज़राने के तौर पर 11 रुपए या 21 रुपए पेश करती,नजराना ग्रहण करने के बाद राजा द्वारा अपने हाथों से एक पान का बीड़ा दिया जाता है, पान देना इस पर्व पर शुभ माना जाता है। सबसे बड़ी बात दशहरे के दिन राजपरिवार के सभी बघेल वंश के राजपूत जो कि इसी खानदान के है जो कई गांवों में बसे है,वो इसी दिन अपने राजा के साथ भोजन ग्रहण करते हैं।
तीन दिनों तक मेले का होता है आयोजन
दशहरे के दिन से तीन दिनों तक चलने वाला ऐतिहासिक मेले का भी आयोजन किया जाता है,ये मेला भी सैकडों साल से लग रहा है। जिसमे दूर दराज के व्यापारी इस मेले में तरह तरह की दुकाने लेकर आते है और बच्चों के लिए विभिन्न प्रकार के झूले एवं मौत का कुंआ आकर्षक का केंद्र होता है। सैकड़ों गांव की महिलाएं बच्चे एवं पुरुष तीन दिनों तक मेले का लुत्फ उठाते हैं।

इस मौके पर राजा महेंद्र प्रताप सिंह,युवराज शिवेंद्र प्रताप सिंह,भंवर त्रयम्बकेश्वर प्रताप सिंह,अमरेंद्र सिंह (मुन्नू दादा) अनय प्रताप सिंह प्रधानाचार्य,मुलेन्द्र प्रताप सिंह,मुन्ना सिंह लोटना गांव,सैयद औसाफ़ अली,अनूप केसरवानी,सचिन वैश्य, छेदीलाल कोटार्य चेयरमैन प्रतिनिधि, गोपाल दास गुप्ता,रोहित केसरवानी,कुंजन लाल मिश्रा,गंगा प्रसाद द्विवेदी सोहरवा, सूर्यनिधान पांडेय,त्रियुगीकांत मिश्रा,चंदमणि त्रिपाठी,चंद्र प्रताप सिंह,त्योंथर विधानसभा से कांग्रेस प्रत्यासी रमाशंकर सिंह पटेल,अशोक सिंह बरगड़ी,सुनील सिंह राजू एवं कार्यक्रम का संचालन पूर्व प्रवक्ता गुलाब सिंह ने किया।
Even today, people of 365 villages of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh gather on this festival to see their king.

Maharaja Vyaghradev came from Gujarat and made Rewa his capital, which used to be Vindhya Pradesh before becoming Madhya Pradesh. Among the five children of Maharaja Vyaghradev, the youngest son Kandhardev was made the king of Kasauta which is now known as Shankargarh.
Story of Shankargarh Story of Dussehra of Shankargarh Shankargarh royal family, located on the border of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, in Yamunanagar of Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh, which was earlier known as Kasauta royal family, is considered to be a very old royal family. Shankargarh royal family which is a family of Rewa princely state. This royal family is the descendants of Maharaja Vyaghradev. Who is called Baghel Raja, the Baghel family of Rajputs is called Maharaja Vyaghradev. Maharaja Vyaghradev came from Gujarat and settled in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh.
Which was known as Vindhya Pradesh before the formation of Madhya Pradesh state. Maharaja Vyaghradev had five sons in which the youngest son Kandhardev was made the king of Kasauta which is now known as Shankargarh, the 34th generation king of this royal family, Mahendra Pratap Singh, seeing the affection and love of the people of Shankargarh, honored his ancestors. This tradition has been maintained.
This tradition is being followed for 34 years
The monarchy ended in the entire country, along with it all the traditions of kings also ended, but the tradition of celebrating Dussehra for 34 generations still continues. According to tradition, on the morning of Dussehra, the flag, the symbol of the royal family, is worshiped, after this the throne and weapons are worshiped, after this at night the king comes in his royal attire and meets the public face to face. According to tradition, the 34th king Mahendra Pratap Singh addresses the public coming from 365 villages of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The tradition of presenting tribute to the king continues even today. The people of the entire Kasauta region consider him as their king and present tribute as per the old tradition.
According to the tradition, first the king’s family members present tribute, followed by the people coming from the area. The common people present Rs 11 or Rs 21 as tribute to their king. After receiving the tribute, the king gives a betel leaf with his own hands. Giving betel is considered auspicious on this festival. The biggest thing is that on the day of Dussehra, all the Rajputs of the Baghel clan of the royal family, who belong to this family and are settled in many villages, take food with their king on this day.
The fair is organized for three days
A historical fair is also organized which lasts for three days from the day of Dussehra, this fair has also been organized for hundreds of years. In which traders from far away places come to this fair with different types of shops and different types of swings and the well of death are the center of attraction for children. Hundreds of village women, children and men enjoy the fair for three days.
